Healing with Play: Children's Grief Awareness Month

On Saturday, November 14, Alaska Children’s Museum is hosting a pop up play day, craft and storytime at The Workshop that will highlight how we connect with each other and remember loved ones that we miss. Resources and partner organizations focused on children’s grief and mental health will be available for visitors who want to learn more in advance of Children’s Grief Awareness Day (Nov 20).
In the US, 1 in 11 children will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the age 18. In Alaska, that number is 1 in 8 children.
Alaska Children’s Museum is a participant in Healing with Play — an initiative from the Association of Children’s Museums, Knology and New York Life Foundation to support families of bereaved children, and this event is made possible by funding provided through Healing with Play.
Healing with Play is part of the broader movement to make bereavement care a collective responsibility. Through activities, workshops, performances, and resource sharing, cohort members are creating new spaces for addressing loss and normalizing grief-related care in community-based settings.
