The symposium kicks off with a brief history of the evolution of herbal medicine over the centuries, from ancient Greece to the present day, presented by Art Scarbrough.
Our keynote speaker, Mary Perrin, traiteuse and co-author of Healing Traditions of South Louisiana: Prayers, Plants, and Poultices, will speak on the healing arts of the traiteurs, focusing on plant-based curatives and the conservation of traditional medicine.
Workshops will give participants useful skills in building their own Materia Medica for the healing plants they work with, as well as hands-on crafting of salves, skin care preparations, and natural mosquito repellents.
Refreshments and lunch are included.
