Hands-on classes in the Book Arts studio! Receive an art supply kit and create a personalized zine in this workshop!
Zines and indie publishing have always been a way for non-mainstream groups and their experiences to be shared. Historically they are self published or printed in short runs. Content includes fandoms, comics, music, art, poetry, and stories. Whether made by one person or a group, zines raise marginalized voices and give space for BIPOC, disabled, LGBTQI+, and other communities to find strength in shared experiences.
Using zines to explore traumatic experiences gives a low pressure outlet for expressing feelings. First, we will create a safe space through breathing exercises and physical introductions. Those foundations will be used throughout the workshop. Next we introduce the 8-page structure and the probing questions that will be used to inspire their content. Finally we finish and share our zines.
Your class fee includes a FREE kit of art supplies: 12 fine line markers, scissors, glue stick, lettering stencils, 12 color set Prismacolor pencils, and a sharpener plus a kit to store it in.
