About this Event

Event Description

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month and AAPI Heritage Month, Calm Clarity presents Healing Marginalization Using Neuroscience, a dynamic and interactive workshop aimed at addressing the neurobiological impacts of marginalization and trauma, particularly within POC and LGBTQIA+ communities.

Created and facilitated by Due Quach, founder of Calm Clarity,* this workshop is designed for professionals, advocates, and community members invested in mental health, social justice, and trauma-informed care.

Participants will gain deeper insights into the effects of marginalization and trauma on brain functioning while practicing techniques to foster resilience and healing at the individual, family, and community level.

Workshop Highlights
  • Apply neuroscience to shed light on how the brain processes experiences of marginalization and trauma.
  • Engage in exercises that activate neural networks supporting resilience, executive functioning, and self-awareness.
  • Explore strategies to facilitate healing within communities impacted by systemic inequities.
  • Connect with other professionals and community members in an open dialogue on advancing trauma-informed programming, advocacy work, and care for marginalized groups.

Learning Objectives

As a result of completing this workshop, participants will take away:

  1. A concrete understanding of how brain development changes in response to threat, marginalization, and trauma.
  2. Insights and tools to more effectively support people experiencing marginalization to shift energy from maladaptive survival and coping mechanisms towards taking constructive actions to enhance safety, build relationships, and achieve their goals.
  3. Practical exercises to enhance well-being and resilience so participants can elevate their impact while mitigating secondary traumatic stress and burnout.

Event Format
  • 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Workshop Session
  • 4:00 PM - 4:30 PM: Community Networking & Idea Exchange

Due Quach (pronounced 'Zway Kwok') is one of the world's leading experts on integrating neuroscience and mindfulness into leadership development. Her book, Calm Clarity: How to Use Science to Rewire Your Brain for Greater Wisdom, Fulfillment, and Joy, was one of Fast Company's Best Business Books of 2018.

Due’s life is a testament to the power of neuroscience as a tool for healing and self-actualization. Having started life in poverty as a refugee in inner-city Philadelphia, Due healed the effects of trauma on her brain by developing mind-hacking techniques that enabled her to graduate from Harvard College and the Wharton School of Business, as well as rise to leadership roles in management consulting and private equity investments. Then in 2013, Due started Calm Clarity to share her “user manual for steering brain development” to support people, organizations, and communities to successfully navigate adversity, elevate their performance, and realize their full potential.

She is also the founder of the Collective Success Network, a nonprofit that supports first-generation college students to navigate college and enter professional careers. Her inspiring story is featured in "The Portal," an independent documentary film about meditation as a portal for healing and transformation.
