Healing Through Our Hands: Reclaiming the Ancestral Trade Skill of Sewing
Sewing is more than a skill—it is a trade skill that has lived in the hands of our ancestors for generations.
This FREE experience is being created specifically for African Americans as a space to heal, learn, create, and reconnect. Led by Keiona Cook, founder of Lovely’s Sewing & Arts Collective, who has spent over 17 years teaching sewing and has helped teach more than 1,700 people how to sew, each participant will learn the basics of sewing while creating their own pillow to take home.
But we’re not just sewing. As our hands create, we’ll come together in a Healing Circle to have honest conversations about how trauma is affecting us as African Americans in our local community, while also exploring the history of sewing within our ancestry and why reclaiming this trade skill matters today.
