Healing Sound and Somatics: Artist Talk with Body Ether Institute

Thursday, May 14, 2026
6:308:00 PM | Doors Open 6:00 PM

Tulsa Artist Fellowship Flagship

Join us for an artist talk with interdisciplinary artist Anna Luisa Petrisko, co-founder of Body Ether Institute, presented by Tulsa Artist Fellow Micaela Tobin.

Working across experimental opera, video, and performance, Petrisko explores how sound, embodiment, and ritual can reshape our experience of time, memory, and relation. Her practice asks: what might “healing” mean when approached as a collective, artistic, and deeply embodied process?

This program traces the evolution of her work—from large-scale operatic performances to the formation of Body Ether Institute, an artist-led platform for somatic and spiritual research. Through a screening of short video works, Petrisko shares how her projects move between performance, community practice, and immersive environments.

Blending lecture, visual work, and reflection, the evening invites audiences into a mode of deep listening—where sound becomes a way of sensing, remembering, and imagining otherwise.

This program continues the following evening with a hands-on Sound & Somatics Workshop, offering participants the opportunity to engage these ideas through guided, embodied practice.

GUEST ARTIST

works across experimental opera, video art, performance, sound, installation, textiles, and interactive media. Her practice engages the sacred alongside technological speculation, exploring ancient and future ideas through a non-linear sense of time. She investigates the body as a site of paradox—transcending time, space, and form—while grounding her work in community and the archiving of histories. Anna Luisa is a co-founder of Body Ether Institute, an artist-led space for somatic and spiritual inquiry founded with Adee Roberson and Melissa Pak Coats. The Institute offers workshops, retreats, fellowships, and immersive experiences that support embodied awareness and transformation.

MODERATOR

Composer and sound artist works across experimental opera, using her soprano voice to push beyond conventional forms and explore the connection between the physical and “inner” voice as a means of empowerment, often challenging colonial narratives. Integrating voice with electronics, ritualized gesture, and amplified object-symbolism, she creates work that is both alluring and demanding. She premiered her opera film BAKUNAWA: Opera of the Seven Moons at REDCAT in 2021, followed by APOLAKI: Opera of the Scorched Earth in 2023, continuing her focus on precolonial Philippine mythology. A recipient of the MAP Fund, NPN Creation & Development Fund, and the Civitella Ranieri Fellowship, she is currently based in Tulsa as a 2025–2027 Tulsa Artist Fellowship awardee and has taught voice for over a decade, including at California Institute of the Arts and through HOWL SPACE, which she co-founded with Carmina Escobar.
