Headz are Rolling press: Bailey (UK)Bailey (UK) is one of drum & bass’ true architects — a DJ whose influence is rooted in selection, culture and history rather than hype. Coming up through South London’s pirate radio scene in the early ’90s, Bailey was there at the foundations of jungle and drum & bass, helping shape the sound as it evolved from raw breakbeat hardcore into a global movement.
A core member of the Metalheadz family and long-time resident at the legendary Blue Note sessions, Bailey became known for deep, forward-thinking sets that balanced soul, science and system pressure. His early tape packs and studio mixes, including the much-revered Intelligent Drum Bass cassette, are now regarded as essential documents — capturing pivotal moments in the genre’s development and showcasing his ability to connect eras, styles and moods into a coherent journey.
Beyond the club, Bailey played a crucial role in pushing drum & bass into wider consciousness through his decade-long tenure on BBC Radio 1Xtra, while continuing to champion underground talent via his Intabeats platform.
