Hayao Miyazaki returns to Amsterdam. Featuring works inspired by his unique vision, the concert will be presented by Mystery Ensemble at the breathtaking Zuiderkerk, an iconic venue with an enchanting atmosphere in the heart of the city. 

Hayao Miyazaki’s Dreams brings together iconic compositions by the brilliant composer Joe Hisaishi, including music from My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Laputa: Castle in the Sky. The programme is further enriched by selected works from other composers who have drawn inspiration from Miyazaki’s fantastical visual storytelling.

These musical themes transport the audience into the spellbinding world of beloved anime tales inhabited by courageous heroines, mysterious spirits, and characters deeply rooted in Japanese folklore.

The concert is organised by the creative agency RED EVENTS & Distribution Ltd., known for producing exceptional cultural experiences in historic mansions, on rooftops, in greenhouses, and in some of the most atmospheric venues across Europe, the United Kingdom, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and beyond. Their repertoire also includes a distinctive collection of candlelit concerts and fully immersive performances combining video art and sound.

PERFORMERS

🎻 Mystery Ensemble Founded in the UK in 2021, Mystery Ensemble is an international collective of musicians presenting immersive concert programmes across Europe. Blending classical, contemporary and cinematic repertoire, the ensemble performs in unique venues through specially created arrangements for chamber formations and small orchestras.

Its founder, Alexander Almin, has devoted over 15 years of his life to the music industry and the development of cultural initiatives around the world, collaborating with outstanding musicians in different countries.

The ensemble’s repertoire ranges from the music of Ludovico Einaudi, Hans Zimmer, Joe Hisaishi and Ólafur Arnalds to tributes to Queen, The Beatles and iconic film soundtracks including The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Interstellar and Star Wars. Classical masterpieces by composers such as Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky also form an important part of its artistic identity.

For its concerts in the Netherlands, Mystery Ensemble collaborates with musicians based locally, bringing together an international artistic vision with the country’s vibrant classical music scene.

Een veelgeprezen programma ter ere van de magische melodieën uit de animefilms van de wereldberoemde Japanse regisseur en Academy Award-winnaar Hayao Miyazaki keert terug naar Amsterdam. Het concert, met werken geïnspireerd door zijn unieke visie, wordt uitgevoerd door Mystery Ensemble in de adembenemende Zuiderkerk: een iconische locatie met een betoverende sfeer in het hart van de stad.

Hayao Miyazaki’s Dreams brengt iconische composities van de briljante componist Joe Hisaishi samen, waaronder muziek uit My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle en Laputa: Castle in the Sky. Het programma wordt verder verrijkt met geselecteerde werken van andere componisten die zich hebben laten inspireren door Miyazaki’s fantastische visuele vertelkunst.

Deze muzikale thema’s voeren het publiek mee naar de betoverende wereld van geliefde animeverhalen, bevolkt door moedige heldinnen, mysterieuze geesten en personages die diep geworteld zijn in de Japanse folklore.

🎻 Mystery Ensemble

Mystery Ensemble werd in 2021 opgericht in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en is een internationaal collectief van musici dat meeslepende concertprogramma’s presenteert in heel Europa. Het ensemble combineert klassieke, hedendaagse en filmmuziek en treedt op bijzondere locaties op met speciaal gecreëerde arrangementen voor kamermuziekbezettingen en kleine orkesten.

Oprichter Alexander Almin is al meer dan vijftien jaar actief in de muziekindustrie en zet zich in voor de ontwikkeling van culturele initiatieven over de hele wereld. Daarbij werkt hij samen met vooraanstaande musici uit verschillende landen.
