Hawthorne 37th Ave Plaza Happy Hour with HBBA!

Come join us on Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 5:30 PM at McMenamins Backstage Bar for a fun and interactive event where we will be discussing and designing a community plaza. This is your chance to have your voice heard and contribute to the development of our neighborhood. If you're a resident, local business or building owner, Hawthorne district employee, or frequent visitor, we want to know what is important to you!

Project Background: In 2023, the Hawthorne Boulevard Business Association received a $46k Venture Portland grant to create a solar kiosk and community hub. Due to limited sidewalk space, and based on an evaluation of possible locations, SE 37th Avenue (Northside) became a top location in the heart of Hawthorne. PBOT has noted this location has all the right ingredients for success, with active restaurants, frequent pedestrian and bike traffic, adjacent busline and a view of the iconic Bagdad Theater. Their traffic engineering shows it is possible for this to be a pedestrian plaza and they are helping us pilot a seasonal plaza in Spring of 2025. With our grant we can put up to half of our funds towards investing in streetfurnishing, landscape planters, lighting, art murals and maintenance. The goal is to benefit residents, businesses, and visitors. Let's come together as a community to brainstorm ideas, share feedback, and collaborate on creating a space that we can all enjoy.
