Established in 2006, the Hawthorn Half Day Relay & Ultra is a one-of-a-kind endurance event welcoming runners and walkers of all levels. After celebrating 20 years of Hawthorn in 2026, we're kicking off our next chapter in 2027—and we'd love for you to be part of it!
Choose a 6-hour or 12-hour challenge, both starting at 7:00 a.m. Participants complete as many miles as they can on a scenic 5K loop of trail and road through Hawthorn Park. During the final 30 minutes, the ½-mile short course opens so you can keep adding mileage right up to the finish.
Race Categories
6-Hour: Solo or Relay Team of 2–3
12-Hour: Solo or Relay Team of 3–6

The Course & Runners Village
Every 5K loop brings you back through Runners Village, where runners and teams can set up a home base for tents, crew and gear. You'll also pass Race Headquarters and the aid station, stocked with cold drinks, snacks and essentials to keep you moving throughout the day.
Campgrounds along the course are available for optional camping, making Hawthorn an especially fun weekend for runners, families and crews. Reserve early—camping can fill quickly.
What Can You Do in Half a Day?
At Hawthorn, there is no set finish-line distance. You decide what Half a Day means to you.
Take one lap or keep going. Chase your first 50K. Set a new distance PR. Share the miles with friends. Or simply see where the day takes you.
Go solo or build a relay team. Run, walk or shuffle your way through as many miles as you can. Hawthorn is competitive when you want it to be and welcoming when you don't.
