Hawk Watch

Each year from August through November thousands of raptors (hawks, eagles, and falcons) travel south along or near the crest of the Blue Ridge. Allen Hale, our antiquarian bookseller at Stone Soup Books, has spent over 40 years observing and counting migrating birds of prey both here in Virginia and in New Mexico and Nevada. He will be at Stone Soup Books on the afternoon of October 20th at 2 PM to talk about raptors and their migrations, discussing the lives of these amazing birds with tips on identifying them in flight.
Following the discussion, we will head to Rockfish Gap to join observers counting the birds from the lookout at the now-defunct Inn at Afton.
Please join us, and be sure to bring binoculars if you have them!
