Hawaiian Steel Guitar SpecialThink Mai Tais, cool breezes & swaying palms with an exotic tropical feel as three Hawaiian bands transport you to the islands.
1) Hoola
2) Hawaiian Slant
3) Aloha No
“Hoola” featuring Graham Griffith on pedal steel guitar is a rare bird in public gigs, having performed mostly lots of private and corporate gigs for over 20 years. The band made an album in 2008 and will feature a few of the tracks on the night. The material they play is mostly “hapa haole” or “half white” as the material is a product of the great Hawaiian craze that swept the world after the San Francisco Pan Pacific Exhibition of 1915.
Graham Griffith, steel guitar; Jenny Griffith, ukulele; Tony Burkys, guitar & Ed Rapo, bass.

“Hawaiian Slant” featuring Piers Crocker, famed luthier & virtuosic player of the Hawaiian steel guitar. Joined by his son Ed Crocker who has been bouncing along to Hawaiian music since birth and Ed’s mate, Jordan “Mahalo” Mallia, who wowed the audience at the 1st Steel & Slide Guitar Night with his expert steel guitar playing. “Nothing after 1938!’ is their motto! A favourite of the Steel & Slide Nights, not to be missed.
Hawaiian Slant at the 3rd Steel and Slide Guitar Night:
Ollie Thorpe’s “Aloha No”
“Aloha No” are:
Ollie Thorpe, pedal steel; Miles Thomas, guitar; Brendan Clark, bass; Daniel Kennedy, percussion; Denneya Muscat, ukulele; Leah Crosby, ukulele
Oliver Thorpe is a multi instrumentalist, prominently known for his guitar and vocal work, over a wide range of musical genres.
He is a regular in the studio and on stage with Australian greats Tim Freedman and Ian Moss.
When the pandemic lockdowns were happening Ollie immersed himself in the roots of steel guitar music and created an Hawaiian group “Aloha No” with a streamed performance that was a significant testament to his musicianship and ability to play different idioms convincingly.
His appearance on pedal steel at the Steel & Slide Guitar Night will be a highlight you won’t forget.
