Humanities Washington: Have You No Sense of Decency? Shame in American PoliticsThe Longview Public Library presents a Humanities Washington program with Professor Carolyn Long exploring the role of shame in American politics. From colonial pillories to modern “cancel culture,” shame has long been used as a political tool. Professor Long will examine its impact on polarization, the consequences of shamelessness, and whether shame can ever be used constructively in political discourse.
