About this Event

Our Hate Crime Champions Training provides a practical introduction to understanding hate incidents and hate crimes, the impact they have on victims and communities, and the vital role that informed community members can play in tackling them.

Across the session, we will explore:

• What constitutes a hate incident and a hate crime. Including real‑world examples and how the law defines them.
• The impact on victims and communities. Understanding trauma, community tension, and why early intervention matters.
• How to report concerns. Clear routes for reporting, including police, third‑party reporting centres, and anonymous options.
• Support services available. Local and national organisations offering emotional, practical, and legal support.
• How to respond when someone discloses an incident. Practical guidance on listening, validating, and signposting safely.
• Becoming an active bystander. Techniques for safe intervention and standing up for others.
• The role of a Hate Crime Champion. What it means to advocate for your community, raise awareness, and support others in accessing help.

Held at the Town Hall, Committee Room 3, this recurring training is an opportunity for anyone who wants to strengthen community resilience, challenge prejudice, and support those affected by hate.
