About this Event
‘Tis the season! Join us for this festive introduction to the holiday season in the 1820s and 1830s to learn how bountiful harvests led to feasts and celebrations for the holidays. We will explore traditions in the 19th century for seasonal gatherings, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve/Day, and how people decorated, socialized, and dined. After this introduction, we will tour the period rooms of our day hotel, which operated as a day resort for middle-class New Yorkers in the Manhattan countryside, and see how guests relaxed, socialized, and dined at this popular destination from 1826 to 1833.
