Doors open at 6 p.m.Harvesting Heritage is a series dedicated to the past, present, and future of creativity, innovation, and artistry in Black foodways throughout South Carolina.
On June 6, storyteller and leader in Lowcountry conservation efforts, Tia Clark, will talk with Chef Amethyst Ganaway about the lives and legacy of South Carolina’s coastal pioneers, the Black fisherman of the legendary Mosquito Fleet.
Harvesting Heritage: Voices from the Mosquito Fleet will feature a discussion about the long history of Black foodways in coastal South Carolina. For generations, from the antebellum era through 1970s and 80s, communities of Black fisherman in South Carolina’s Lowcountry shaped the culinary traditions of the region, while navigating over a century of historic change in South Carolina.
The evening will include:
· A discussion with Tia Clark, owner of Casual Crabbing with Tia and Chef Amethyst Ganaway
· A fish fry curated by Chef Reggie Miller of Miller Cuisines, including fried whole and fileted whiting and red rice by Chef Amethyst Ganaway
· Chewies by Lorraine Guild
· Handcrafted cocktails and mocktails by Will Green, Columbia bartender and co-owner of the Hoot (each guest will receive one drink ticket – all other drinks available for purchase)
