About this Event
This workshop provides an engaging introduction to the traditional craft of basket weaving, focusing on creating a functional and beautiful harvest basket. Participants will learn fundamental weaving techniques using natural materials, resulting in a sturdy and aesthetically pleasing basket perfect for gathering produce, foraging, or decorative display.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify and prepare suitable natural weaving materials.
- Understand and apply basic basket-weaving terminology and techniques, including starting a base, weaving the sides, and finishing a rim.
- Demonstrate proficiency in various weaving patterns (e.g., twining, randing) to create a strong and durable basket structure.
- Troubleshoot common weaving challenges and adapt techniques as needed.
- Complete a functional harvest basket ready for personal use or gifting.
- Appreciate the historical and cultural significance of basket weaving as a sustainable craft.

Instructor bio: Deb has been weaving baskets for over 30 years. She is also a fiber arts enthusiast and homesteader. In her spare time, you can find her knitting, crocheting, or weaving and tending to her gardens and animals.
Basket supplies are $25 per student
Attendees should bring a towel to dry their hands throughout the workshop
This class needs a minimum of 2 attendees to run
Open to 18 years old and up
Registration closes 3 days before the event
