Born in Panama City Alex Blake has developed a revolutionary playing style that combines innovative strumming rapid lyrical notations and percussive slaps to create a unique and compelling sound. Some have called him "an entire rhythm section"—and for good reason.
With a career spanning over forty years Alex Blake's talent is measured by the plenitude of masters who have called upon him for his inventive and passionate playing. He has performed with Dizzy Gillespie Sonny Rollins Sun Ra Art Blakey Freddie Hubbard McCoy Tyner Stan Getz and is a long-time member of NEA Jazz Master Randy Weston's African Rhythms.
Starting professionally at age 12 with Latin jazz legends by 16 he was touring with Sun Ra establishing a reputation as an emerging and formidable star bassist.
