This year, as part of our Santacruzan for a Cause event, we are inviting all the crooners in Aotearoa NZ to join our HARANA SINGING CONTEST as we celebrate this important part of Philippine culture while showcasing the best of Original Pilipino Music.
"Harana" is the Filipino tradition of serenading the person you care for. It is usually young men who sing to young women and was an especially popular pastime and form of entertainment in the rural towns of the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era until the early 20th century.
HARANA SINGING CONTEST MECHANICS
1. This contest is open to all performers whether they have Filipino roots or not.
2. Registration of contestants will be open until May 5th, 2024. Register via: https://www.banyuhayaotearoa.org/harana2024.
3. The performance can be a solo act or a duet.
4. There is a maximum of 2 participants per entry including the person playing an instrument.
5. The performance can be sung in a capela, with an acoustic guitar, or with minus one of acoustic guitar accompaniment.
6. There will only be one song performance for each entry.
7. The song of choice should be an Original Pilipino Music Ballad in either English or any Philippine language or dialect.
8. Performers are highly encouraged to wear Filipiniana-themed costumes as part of their performance, but this is not required.

- Singing Ability - 50%
- Presence & Showmanship - 20%
- Overall Performance - 20%
- Audience Appeal - 5%
- Costume - 5%

- First Prize - $300
- Second Prize - $200
- Third Prize - $100
