Harambee Shopper Workshop Series
About this Event
Join the King Branch Library Makerspace, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Neighborhood Dispatch and NABJ Milwaukee for a four-day creative workshop to revive “The Harambee Shopper,” a Black student-led newspaper made by and for the Harambee community in the 1970s.
Founded by Reuben Harpole, Mildred Harpole and Belden Paulson, the original “Harambee Shopper” gave young people a platform for creativity, local news and civic engagement. Now it’s your turn to tell the stories that matter in Harambee.
Students can write a story, share an opinion, create poetry or show off their artwork.
Work produced in this limited workshop series will be featured in a one-time revival edition of The Harambee Shopper and may be published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
A light meal will be provided.
