On Sunday, June 28th, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater offers a laurel and hearty handshake to one of the legends of screen comedy, a man whose cinematic spoofery and silver screen silliness have kept audiences laughing for almost 80 years… Melvin Kaminsky!On the occasion of his 100th birthday (June 28th!), we invite you to join us in celebrating the man who helped Sid Caesar shine, the Frankenstein Monster sing, sent up Hitchcock and STAR WARS, and set Hollywood westerns ablaze…Mel Brooks, with a 35mm screening of BLAZING SADDLES (1974)!
They said a western spoofing Hollywood genre conventions, racism, and excessive bean consumption couldn’t be done in good taste…and they was right! See Cleavon Little as the railroad worker turned unwelcome Sheriff of the frontier town of Rock Ridge, aided by alcoholic gunslinger Gene Wilder, who attempt to thwart a plan by unscrupulous Governor Mel Brooks and henchman Harvey Korman to destroy the town to make way for, in the words of Mongo, “where choo -choo go”. It’s one of the funniest films of all time, with something to offend everybody!
Co-written by Richard Pryor, with Madeline Kahn, Slim Pickens, Burton Gilliam, Alex Karras, Dom, DeLuise, and Count Basie!
