About this Event
Join us for the latest installment of the "Culture & Heritage Series," a collaborative program from the Tulane Grant Center for the American Jewish Experience, that aims to explore the rich and complex history of New Orleans through the lens of Jewish cuisine. Through a diverse range of academic lectures and hands-on cooking demonstrations, participants will have the opportunity to delve into the culinary traditions that have shaped the cultural landscape of the city. From the fusion of flavors to the historical significance of certain dishes, this program series offers a deep dive into the intersection of food, culture, and heritage in New Orleans.
Step back in time and savor the flavors of the 19th century at the Hermann-Grima House! Discover the unique experience of watching traditional latkes being crafted in the only open-hearth kitchen still in operation in the area. The knowledgeable docents will demonstrate historic cooking techniques using authentic tools on an open flame, bringing history to life before your eyes. Delight in live 19th-century Jewish music performed by talented local New Orleans musicians as you explore the beautifully preserved Hermann-Grima House on a guided tour. Enjoy delicious bites, sip on fine wine, and embrace the festive spirit at our Hanukkah mixer—an unforgettable way to kick off the holiday season.
