On Saturday 20 September, the Hanse-Mekele Festival will take place for the fourth time.From 15:30 to 23:00, visitors can immerse themselves in the vibrant traditions and history of East African countries and discover the rich culture and heritage . The event will take place in the Rittweiker Theater in Amsterdam and will be an unforgettable experience for all participants.
Participants will be introduced to African music, history and culture, which are an integral part of the international identity that reflects the diverse cultures in Africa and across .
They will have the opportunity to attend musical and cultural performances.
These music groups, named after the places and communities that are central to African history, perseverance and heroism (Adulis, Nuba), will play Ethiopian, Eritrean , Sudanese and ofcourse Netherlans music that day, performed by musicians with backgrounds from all over the world.
Each group brings its own unique rhythms and dances, creating a colorful spectacle of artistic heritage.
Food
In addition to music, visitors can enjoy Eritrean/Ethiopian cuisine, which is known for its rich flavors and varied ingredients. Visitors can enjoy traditional dishes such as injera with Zgni. This is a sweet dough that serves as a base for all kinds of stews and vegetables. During this meal, participants can enjoy the unique ingredients and cooking techniques that make the food so special and delicious.
Coffee
There is also an exhibition and a coffee ceremony, where you can learn about the coffee that was discovered by Africans in Africa and spread throughout the world via Yemen.
The gathering will also provide the public with an opportunity to learn more about African history, including the struggle for self independence and the rich stories of its people. Informative exhibits will be organized to educate visitors about the historical timeline and cultural significance of the continent, thus promoting a deeper understanding of the place of Africans in the world.
