Hands-On STEM Workshop: Creepy Crawly Science-Ecosystem in a Cup- FREE
About this Event
Hands-On STEM Workshop: Gummy Bear Osmosis Lab
Hosted by N.E. LOVE EMPOWER
Get ready to dig into real ecology, one organism at a time! In this hands-on STEM workshop, students will observe a real plant, insect, and earthworm up close, then work together to build a shared edible soil-layer model showing how producers, consumers, and decomposers all depend on each other.
This highly interactive lab makes abstract science concepts easy to see, measure, and understand. Perfect for curious minds who love hands-on science and creative exploration. Don't miss this exciting STEM adventure!
🔬 What Participants Will Learn
● Think like a scientist by observing, drawing, and recording a real producer, consumer, and decomposer
● Explain what a niche is and describe the niche each organism plays in its ecosystem
● Connect producer, consumer, and decomposer roles to real Florida ecosystems
● Work together to build a shared edible soil-layer model showing all three roles
🍬 Participants Will:
● Magnifying glass observation and drawing of a real mint plant, insect, and worm
● Think Like a Scientist: Florida Connection discussion
● Producers, consumers, and decomposers sorting review with Florida organisms
● Build-the-food-cup-together group activity
● Take home a deeper understanding of how producers, consumers, and decomposers depend on each other to keep an ecosystem healthy
📚 NGSS Alignment
This workshop aligns with the following Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS):
MS-LS2-3:
Soil ecosystems, the niche each organism fills as a producer, consumer, or decomposer, and how these roles show up in real Florida ecosystems.
