About this Event
Hands-On Hydraulics: Build Moving Machines with Fluid Power
Ages 8 and above
Parents are requested to remain nearby during the workshop so they can be reached if needed. There are several shops to explore at Cecy’s, as well as nearby cafés for coffee.
How do machines lift cars, move bridges, and power heavy equipment? In this hands-on hydraulics workshop, children will explore the science of fluid pressure by designing and building their own working hydraulic systems using syringes, tubing, and simple construction materials.
Over the course of this two-hour workshop, participants will:
- Learn how liquids transmit force through closed systems (Pascal’s principle)
- Experiment with pressure, force, and motion using water-filled syringes and pipes
- Build and take home a simple functional hydraulic project.
Using popsicle sticks, nuts, washers, screws, and hot glue, students will design, assemble, test, and refine their creations while developing problem-solving and engineering skills.
This workshop emphasizes:
- Engineering design and iteration
- Cause-and-effect relationships in physical systems
- Fine motor skills and collaborative building
- Confidence in working with tools and materials
No prior experience is required. All materials are provided, and each participant will leave with a completed hydraulic model they built themselves.
Age Group: 8 years and above
