About this Event
Join us for an immersive bookbinding workshop at historic Sylvanside Farm! In this hands-on class, you’ll learn the art of traditional bookbinding to create your own beautiful leatherbound book (size approximately 4"x6"x1.5") with decorative woven spine. Whether you’re crafting to create holiday gifts or personal keepsakes, you’ll leave with a unique, handcrafted item you can cherish or share.
During the workshop, we’ll guide you through each step, from preparing the leather cover to binding the pages. You’ll have access to all the materials you need, along with expert instruction to help you bring your vision to life.
Set against the serene backdrop of Sylvanside’s lush landscapes and historic barns, this experience combines creativity, relaxation, and a touch of Virginia heritage. After the class, feel free to explore the grounds, enjoy the picturesque scenery, and connect with fellow creatives.
No prior experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm! Refreshments will be available throughout the course.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Jane has been studying traditional book art forms for over 10 years. She is the owner of Gray Books Co. and was co-founder of LoomBound, two projects which aim to revive the historic craft of bookbinding for modern writers, artists, and dreamers. She specializes in custom leather-bound books, reveling in the use of furs, linen threads, and found objects to prepare each book for its own unique story.
Here's a quick video of one of my students opening their new journal - there are lots of options for decorative endsheets and stitching designs along the spine. Each book is a unique expression of the artist!
