About this Event
Join us for an unforgettable in-person performance of Handel's Messiah. Immerse yourself in the powerful melodies and timeless choruses that have captivated audiences for centuries. Whether you're a classical music lover or just looking for a fantastic night out, this event promises to deliver an inspiring and uplifting experience. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy this masterpiece from the atmosphere of our 19th century church, performed by the superb 40 voice St. Paul's church choir and organist.
When the Mesiah was first performed in Dublin on the 13th April, 1742, men were told to leave their swords at home and women were instructed to leave their hoops at home. Why? So the organiser's could get more people into the theatre.
So please leave your swords and hoops at home!
The performance is divided into three parts: the prophecies and birth of the Messiah, Christ's suffering and ressurection, and the Day of Judgement. While often associated with Christmas, the oratorio's narrative covers the Christian Lent and Easter stories. There will be a refreshment break betwen each part.
The list of Cathedrals the choir have sung at as a guest choir is genuinely impressive. They include St. Pauls, Westminster Abbey, Southwark, Gloucester, Norwich, St. Edmundsbury, St. Albans, Rochester, Chelmsford, Guildford, Peterborough, Salisbury and Winchester.
