A six-week, intermediate hand building class at the American Museum of Ceramic Art / AMOCA ceramics studio.
This continuing hand building (Fall 2022) course, taught by Nick Vest, is designed to build upon the fundamentals of working with clay. Students will explore various hand building and construction techniques, as well learn more about glazing.
Classes meet once a week for 2.5 hours in the AMOCA Ceramics Studio for six weeks (15 hours of total instruction), and are limited in size to ten students.
Note: Studio classes are for adults ages 18 and over (students 16+ may attend classes when accompanied by a paying adult).
About the instructor:
Nick Vest, born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, received his MFA from Kansas State University and his BFA from Alfred University. He has been Ceramic Kiln Technician and Instructor of Ceramics at Kansas State University and a Lecturer at Jingdezhen Ceramic University. Vest has been resident artist at Shangyu Celadon Modern International Ceramic Art Center; the Gaya Ceramic Art Center in Bali, Indonesia; and the Quiong Lai Ceramic Center in Sichuan, China. He established a personal studio in Jingdezhen, China, in 2016. In 2018, he opened the MenLo Gallery and Studio in Jingdezhen, which aims to celebrate the risk-taking and innovative work of young Chinese artists, as well as to offer non-traditional ceramic artists from abroad residency and exhibition opportunities. He currently lives in Jingdezhen, where he continues his artistic practice and runs MenLo with his wife, ceramic artist Zhou YuYe. Vest is artist-in-residence at AMOCA through March 2023.
Course Policies
Refunds are not allowed after the course begins. Refunds requested during the week prior to the start of the class will be honored at 50%. Refunds requested prior to this will be honored minus Eventbrite fees. If you would like to request a refund, email [email protected].
Every student is required to show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination on the first day of class. If a student cannot provide proof of vaccination, the student will be unable to continue with the class. Thank you in advance for your understanding!
