Hand-printed monotype workshop

Monoprint is a printmaking process that produces unique, non-repeatable images. After the first print, a second “ghost print” can be made, creating a reversed effect of light and shadow. Quick and accessible, monoprint can be seen as a free combination of drawing, printmaking, and painting.

In this workshop, led by Qinlin, participants will approach monoprint as a way of painting. Starting from observation, we will draw the space we are in at this moment. It could be yourself, the person across from you, a corner of the room, or an image that comes from memory.

What we are capturing is a single moment in time. We invite you to set aside your usual techniques and experiences and simply focus on being present. Let today’s weather, the sounds of the street, the music in the room, the changing light, and the conversations around you guide your image.

Qinlin Yang is a London-based artist working primarily with mezzotint, monoprint, and drawing. Through subtle perspectives, her practice explores feelings of distance and disconnection within urban life, reflecting on the emotional weight of the immigrant experience.
