Join bestselling children’s author Hana Tooke for an enchanting event where she introduces the curious science of Librariology.
About this Event

To celebrate the Summer Reading Challenge and the National Year of Reading, we have invited author Hana Tooke to join us in North Somerset to talk about the science of Librariology.

We will rigorously (and whimsically) examine the following:

  • Readers as heroes on a daring quest
  • Books as portals to unseen worlds
  • Libraries as magical portal hubs
  • Portal Guardians (commonly known as librarians) as book-finding wizards

Through interactive story-finding experiments, Hana will demonstrate the core Librariology formula:

reader + right book = lifelong love of reading

Most magical of all, you’ll discover that a simple library card is one of the most powerful treasures you’ll ever own.

NB: This entirely tech-free one-hour session will include: a hero's journey to reading for pleasure, a tonne of audience participation, and a smidge of (very pretend) open-skull brain surgery for willing volunteers.

This event is suitable for 7-11 year olds.

About the Venue

Worle Library and Children's Centre is located in the old school building on Mendip Avenue, just off Worle High Street. The entrance has automatic doors into the foyer, then an automatic door (push pad) into the library. Inside, the library is all on one level.

The entrance has automatic sliding doors into the foyer, wide enough for all wheelchairs and mobility aids, then a push pad entry door (opens inwards) into the library.

Toilets, including a gender-neutral accessible toilet, are available during staffed hours and during events. Baby changing facilities are available.

A hearing loop is available at the library help desk, as well as by advance request at the event.

All staff are Dementia Friends trained, and the library is an autism-friendly space.

Please contact us if you would like to discuss any other adjustments to help you attend and enjoy the event.
