Hosted by the hilarious Leanne Shorley in the glorious Tusk Club @ The Walrus.Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm.
HOW TO SLAM: ‘Performer Tickets’ are now SOLD OUT for 4th March. If you’d like to come along as an audience member and be on the slam reserve list, please let us know at the door on the night - often, a couple of slammers can't make it, so it’s definitely worth a go! If you are performing in the slam, please prepare an original poem of 3 minutes or less (no music, no props). Any style, any theme, anything you want! It doesn’t have to be memorised and you’re more than welcome to read from paper/your phone.
Please be aware the performance space is in a basement which is only accessible via a flight of stairs. There is space to store wheelchairs / a mobility scooter on the ground floor. Assistance dogs are welcome.
Featured Poets:
Anna Free won the 2024 Hammer & Tongue Brighton Poetry Slam Final at Brighton Open Air Theatre. She has written, produced, and directed her own show based on her self-published book The Innocence of Being Eve - a trilogy of funny, reverent poems about a woman searching for love, meaning, and connection. She was long-listed for The National Poetry Awards in 2022 with her poem Killing Time and hosts Open Mic Lewes, as well as regularly performing at local events and festivals.
Leanne Shorley is a writer/performer. Her work has been featured on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 6 Music and showcased at the Institute of Contemporary Arts. She’s appeared on the BAFTA award-winning 'Life & Rhymes' on Sky Arts and hosts Brighton's longest-running poetry slam, Hammer & Tongue. She's a previous winner of the Farrago Poetry Slam and has featured at various spoken word nights across London and Brighton. Leanne is a trained actor (East 15 Acting School) with an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Brighton.
Henry Madd is an award winning poet and playwright who has been entertaining people for years with his electric awkwardnes. His work bounces between bizarre, funny and gut wrenching that leaves audiences not sure what to do with their faces. Henry’s debut drama toured nationally to 4 and 5 star reviews and was listed in the Guardians top 100 shows of the year. He was the Film 4 writer in residence for Pentabus Theatre and has been described by some as a generally good egg.
