Independent Jewish Voices (Hamilton) and City & City Books - with the endorsement of the Hamilton Coalition To Stop The War - are proud to present the Hamilton launch of the new book, "Razing Palestine." The promo from Baraka Books notes that: "Razing Palestine brings together the testimonies and stories of a wide range of individuals [in Canada] across a variety of domains who have suffered the cost and consequences of speaking up for Palestine. As Palestine is razed, the courage and the voices of those who raise the issue must be heard."
Chapter contributors to the book include: Sheima Benembarek, Amy Blanding, Safa Chebbi, Libby Davies, Yipeng Ge, Yara Jamal, Thoby King, Nora Loreto, Ehab Lotayef, Samira Mohyeddine, Kagiso Lesego Molope, Arfa Rana, Sean Tucker, the Jewish Faculty Network, and Jillian Rogin.
At the book launch, there will be two presenters, who contributed chapters to the book:
Jillian Rogin -- Assistant professor, University of Windsor Faculty of Law, member Jewish Faculty Network & Independent Jewish Voice, contributor to the book, and Hamilton resident;
Katherine Grzejszczak – Fired after 15 years as a York Region paramedic, for a social media comment critical of Israel and calling for workers to join an anti-war rally, contributor to the book.
In addition, there will be four commentators, who will each speak for 5 minutes:
Birju Dattani -- Appointed Canada's Chief Human Rights Commissioner in 2024, he resigned from the position prior to commencing his term, following Zionist organizations’ demands he be removed;
Dr. Mohammad Zubairi -- Associate Professor at McMaster med school, experienced a significant campaign to have him dismissed as EDI Director for advocating for humanitarian efforts in Palestine;
Angelune Des Lauriers -- Local labour and peace activist who has been targeted at work for her support for Palestinian human rights;
Mason Fitzpatrick -- Former grad student at McMaster and president of CUPE local 3906, made persona non grata for Palestine activism.
Paul Weinberg of IJV Hamilton will moderate.
"Razing Palestine" includes a foreword by Dr. Gabor Maté. The full description of the book may be found at https://www.barakabooks.com/catalogue/razing-palestine/
A Q&A will follow the presentations.
