Post-screening Q+A with directors Deanna Milligan and Ramsey Fendall, and moderated by Nathan Fleet!
It’s 1994, and art student Mia Sunshine Jones must pass her self portrait project or be kicked out of school. The problem is that she can’t seem to figure out who the hell she really is! She is desperate to break free of her terrible creative block and finds her last hope in a magical lucid dreaming elixir. The potion sparks her creativity but also unleashes dark monsters from her subconscious. As Mia battles these creatures, including a fried chicken monster, her art flourishes! When her estranged mother appears as a hairy monster, Mia must face the truth about her past.
🎬MEET THE DIRECTORS:
Deanna Milligan & Ramsey Fendall are the co-founders of Sublunar Films and the co-directors of Lucid (2025), a surreal, punk-infused psychological horror feature. Lucid world-premiered at Fantasia and screened at Sitges in October 2025 and is competing for a Noves Visions Award. Milligan, a veteran Canadian actor with dozens of film and television credits is also a Leo-nominated director known for her visceral, emotionally charged storytelling rooted in the “beautiful grotesque.” Fendall, a cinematographer and visual artist whose credits include Seymour and Skatopia: 88 Acres of Anarchy, brings gritty, tactile imagery to their work, often shooting on 35mm and 16mm. Expanding Lucid from an acclaimed short into a feature, the duo transformed their own home into a film studio, embodying the fearless, resourceful spirit of DIY indie filmmaking.
🎤MEET THE MODERATOR:
Nathan Fleet is a director, producer, composer, and songwriter from Hamilton whose work spans film, television, music, and live events. Over a career spanning more than 30 years, he has directed and produced projects across a wide range of genres including drama, comedy, documentary, horror, experimental film, children’s programming, and musical productions.
He is the founder and longtime director of the Hamilton Film Festival, recognized among the top 100 festivals on FilmFreeway, and founded Lights Camera Hamilton to support and grow the local film industry. His films and music projects have screened internationally and earned awards.
