Hamell on Trial

Oswego House Concerts hosts our eleventh house show on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 6 at 3 PM, with singer-songwriter and national touring act HAMELL ON TRIAL. We are deliriously excited about this show. Ranjit has seen Hamell on Trial (a k a Ed Hamell) three times. He is a solo performer like no other, with a mix of smart lyrics, rapid-fire wordplay, punk-rock attitude, captivating storytelling, stand-up comedy, and literal acoustic guitar shredding (as is clear from the sight of his 1937 Gibson). He has been described as "Bill Hicks, Hunter S. Thompson, and Joe Strummer all rolled into one."
Hamell hails from Syracuse, where he played with the well-regarded band The Works for seven years before going solo. He regularly sells out two shows a year at the 443 Social Club in Syracuse. He has since lived in New York City and Austin. His fans include Henry Rollins and Ani DiFranco (on whose label, Righteous Babe Records, Hamell released several albums).
“One of the biggest surprises at a Hamell show can be found at the merch table. Instead of the typical offering of t-shirts and hats, audience members find a huge offering of original hand-painted artwork, featuring images of legendary figures from the worlds of music, politics, art and culture who Hamell finds inspirational. Each acrylic on canvas creation is unique and painstakingly crafted by Hamell himself in his unique style of illustration. Thousands of fans have taken home a painting of a beloved icon, from Bowie to RGB, Banksy to Kendrick Lamar.” (Hamell on Trial website).
These two videos are good introductions to Hamell and his work:
Examples of Hamell’s portraits appear in the first comment. They are unbelievably inexpensive, considering the quality.
The show will start around 4 PM, with doors opening at 3. Beverages and snacks will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.
Hope you can make it. Friends and family are always welcome, and kids attend for free.
For street number and payment information, DM us or email ranjitdighe12 at gmail dot com. Cash payments at the door will be accepted (if the show does not sell out in advance), but advance sales are good for the hosts’ and artist’s peace of mind.
Thanks,
Ranjit & Anne
