The all-volunteer Hamden Symphony Orchestra will conclude their 63rd season with “See the Light” on Sunday, April 27th at 3:00 PM at Hamden Memorial Town Hall. With music spanning from 1811 to 1954, this program evokes both the jubilant and contemplative moods that signify the change of seasons and the brighter days of Spring ahead. Hamden Symphony is pleased to perform with the talented winners of their 2025 Young Musicians Concerto Competition; Pianist Lina Elwood and Violinists Mia Jung-Pitkin and Philip Larson, who will perform music of Sergei Rachmaninoff, Henryk Wieniawski and Ernest Chausson, respectively. The Orchestra is also eager to finally welcome 2024 YMCC winner and Hamden resident, clarinetist Mia Gribbon, to perform a selection of Carl Maria von Weber.
“Capriccio Italien” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is an orchestral tour-de-force that bridges the frantic sounds of Rome during Carnival with the serene landscape of the Italian countryside. Rounding out this program is the aptly titled “Festive Overture” of Dmitri Shostakovich.
No tickets are required in advance. A $15 Suggested Donation ($10 Students/Seniors) will be accepted at the door.
This performance is sponsored by Paul & Elizabeth Mathey. Additional support is provided by the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
