Hamden Symphony Orchestra will conclude its 62nd season and mark a decade of performances at Hamden’s Memorial Town Hall with its Spring concert “Discoveries” on Sunday April 28th at 3:00 PM. This program will feature music composed between 1811 and 1928 spanning from the early Romantic era all the way to the fusion of jazz into symphonic music.

The Orchestra is thrilled to accompany the four talented winners of their 2024 Young Musicians Concerto Competition; Clarinetist Mia Gribbon of Hamden Violinist Ian Li of Waterford Violinist Doris Lu of West Hartford and Cellist James Stuber of Wallingford will perform works of Weber Glazunov Sarasate and Elgar respectively.

George Gershwin’s rhapsodic tone poem “An American in Paris” highlights nearly every instrument in the Orchestra through the course of its narrative: a massive orchestration employing four different types of saxophones and an expansive array of percussion (taxi horns included) to evoke the frenetic by day and romantic by night vibes of the Parisian streets encountered by its visitor. Rounding out this program is the occasionally boisterous but always grand “Academic Festival Overture” of Johannes Brahms.

No tickets are required in advance. A $15 Suggested Donation ($10 Students/Seniors) will be accepted at the door. For more information visit www.hamdensymphony.org or call 203-691-5178.
