Spend the day railfanning, learning how the telegraph works and see operating Ham Radio station.
The Telegraph was invented in the 1830 for long distance communications. Morse code was used via wires. As the railroads provided paths through the America’s, it made since to use the railroad beds for the telegraph poles and wires. As radio was invented, it was discovered that Morse code would transmit much farther than voice. Even today, amateur radio operators (HAM) still use Morse Code.
