Halsey (real name Ashley Nicolette Frangipane) was born in Washington in 1994 and grew up playing the violin, viola, cello, and focused on acoustic guitar when she was 14. She started writing songs at 17 and played numerous acoustic shows in different cities under various stage names. Her stage name is an anagram of her real name as well as a street where she spent a lot of time as a teenager. She released her debut album (Badlands) last year and it hit #2 on the US Billboard 200 chart.
