Hallé Archive Talk - Simon Speelman, the life of a Victorian Violist

A two-part festive archive event. Including a presentation on the story of Simon Speelman, the Hallé’s principal Violist.
About this Event

This is the third in a series of free talks delving in to the Hallé Archive and exploring the history of the Hallé Concerts Society.

At each event, the Hallé archive team will show items from the archive, sharing stories about the people who helped shape the Hallé over the decades and exploring the impact the Hallé has had on Manchester's music scene.

On Saturday, 5th December, our event will begin with a talk about Mr Speelman, the Hallé's principal violist, delivered by the Hallé's Archivist, Heather Roberts. This will be followed by a festive quiz on the Hallé brand and hosted by Eleanor Roberts.

The event is scheduled after the chamber music performance in Hallé St Peters. If attended the chamber music concert, please head upstairs to the Victoria Wood Hall afterwards to continue your visit to the Hallé.

Please book for each talk separately in our 2026/2027 series of talks. Although this event is free, booking in advance is encouraged to guarantee entry.
