Halloween Tale for Two 2024

Tale for Two is an extension of our Listening Ears Program which pairs a young reader with an animal to make the experience of reading more fun. By bringing the readers to our shelter, our adoptable cats and dogs get to benefit from the positive presence of a child, boosting confidence in both the pet and the person. This In-shelter reading program is open to youth ages 6-13.

This special Halloween edition of Tale for Two allows participants to wear a costume*. Each child will be able to read to an animal for 20 minutes, complete a VBSPCA scavenger hunt for 20 minutes and complete a holiday activity for 10 minutes. Each participant receives a Halloween goodie bag to take home!

There will be 12 participants allowed to register for this event with 6 openings in Cattery (cats) and 6 openings in our Kennel (dogs). Please note, if you have more than 1 child "reader" in your party, you will need to register each child separately and with the same animal species (if only one chaperon attends). There is a maximum of two children and one adult in a reading space. Children are invited to bring their own books or they can choose from the VBSPCA library.

To reserve a space for your child, select either the cattery or kennel when you make your donation. We ask for a minimum donation of $20 for each participant.

* Please note all costumes must be mask free to help our shelter animals feel more safe and less anxious. Also, please keep all costume props at home (i.e. swords, wands, etc.).
