About this Event
Celebrate Halloween/Samhain with Wild South London in Beckenham Place Park at this community event. We’ll take a short walk around the park, stopping at different trees, where we’ll hear folklore tales about oak trees, hedgehogs, robins, wrens and more.
This event is suitable for those aged 12+ but if you have younger children, why not bring them along earlier in the day for wildlife mask-making and our Trick or Tree Trail?
About Wild South London:
Wild South London is a community group which aims to raise awareness of local biodiversity and promote conservation and appreciation of nature. Through walks, talks and hands-on workshops, the group will educate and inspire local people on topics such as sustainable foraging and identification of plants, animals and fungi. They will also show people how to record finds to contribute to local biodiversity data - all while promoting the positive health and wellbeing impacts of engaging with nature.
Where to meet, getting here and how to prepare:
Meet your hosts Eleanor, Holly and Zabby outside the FSC Classroom in the Homestead Courtyard in Beckenham Place Park at 3pm sharp. What3Words ///dash.tested.trains
Transport: There is a car park in Beckenham Place Park or free on-street parking on various roads surrounding the park. We strongly advise you to walk, cycle or use public transport on the day. Full transport information can be found here: https://lewisham.gov.uk/inmyarea/openspaces/parks/beckenham-place-park/getting-to-beckenham-place-park
Facilities:There is a café and toilets in the Homestead Courtyard. If you wish to visit these, please do so before the walk so we can start on time as we’ll be racing against the sun going down on the day!
Preparation:Please ensure you wear suitable clothing and footwear based on the weather forecast. Some parts of the walk may be on muddy or uneven ground, but we will ensure we make it as accessible as possible. Please note that we will not be eating or foraging for anything on this walk but may point out species we have some knowledge of as foragers.
Other:This event is suitable for children aged 12+. Younger children are welcome to join at the discretion of their parents (some folklore stories will contain mild peril and/or rude words). All children must be supervised by an adult at all times. Well behaved dogs are also welcome but must be looked after and kept on a lead when necessary.
Please contact us before the event if you have any questions or concerns.
