About this Event

Fritz Lang's 1921 supernatural thriller Destiny (Der Müde Tod) with live organ accompaniment.

Parker Ramsay’s career, unique in its integration of contemporary music and historical performance, defies easy categorization. Equally at home at the harp and the organ, Parker is dedicated to invigorating the existing canon while delving into new and underperformed works. A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Parker was awarded the undergraduate organ scholarship at King’s College, Cambridge. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in history at Cambridge, he pursued graduate studies in historical keyboards at Oberlin Conservatory. In 2014, he was awarded First Prize at the Sweelinck International Organ Competition. He lives in New York City. St John's boasts a three-manual organ by the Austrian organ firm Rieger.

As a young couple stops and rests in a small village inn, the man is abducted by Death and is sequestered behind a huge doorless, windowless wall. The woman finds a mystic entrance and is met by Death, who tells her three separate stories set in exotic locales, all involving circumstances similar to hers. In each story, a woman, trying to save her lover from his ultimate tragic fate, fails. The young lady realizes the meaning of the tales and takes the only step she can to reunite herself with her lover. Exotic locales and special effects excite ours and the organist's imagination.

The perfect way to ring in Hallowe'en. You can enjoy both the Parade and this film. Watch the parade from the (west) corner of West 11th Street and Sixth Avenue from 7pm, as it moves north up Sixth Avenue. Then head west on West 11th Street (there are no road closures west of Sixth Avenue) to the corner with Waverly Place, and enjoy the film much as it was enjoyed in 1921, with live organ accompaniment.

By the time the film ends (about 10.30pm) all local road-closures and blockages will have been removed and public transport will be running as normal.
