Hurriyah, Arabic for freedom, is the word that people across the Arab-speaking world have shouted repeatedly as they fight against tyranny and oppression. Today, Syrians can finally say Hurriyah to describe their reality rather than their hopes. Come celebrate with us as we celebrate the fall of the Assad regime with Syrian songs ranging from folklore to contemporary music.

We will also be celebrating the ceasefires in Lebanon and Gaza – in hopes that they will last – and the return of Gazans to their homes after months and months of suffering. The road is long and thorny, people are still suffering, and the future is uncertain. Yet in the Levant and beyond, we always know when to find moments of joy and how to keep living, singing, and dancing even when bullets are falling upon us.

The performance will be about two hours long and will feature Basma Edrees (violin); Clarissa Bitar (oud); Susu (tabla); Monica Berini (riqq/daff); Rana Mroue, Moe Nasser, Nasser Meerkhan, and Nour Bouhassoun (vocals).
