About this Event
Haiti: Time for Action is Now!
France's compulsory imposition of an onerous ransom on the newly independent, Black-led Republic of Haiti transformed the proud but frail nation into a client state. Haiti has since been plagued by all manners of catastrophes while predatory states, modern-day buccaneers and corporate empires profited handsomely from extracting its natural resources and exploiting its labor force. Haiti is now on the verge of collapse.
Join the Haitian Afro-Descendant Collective (KAAD), the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti (IJDH), the Global Justice Clinic of NYU School of Law, the Hemispheric Network for Haitian Migrants' Rights and the International Civil Society Working Group (ICSWG) in a powerful conversation of what can be done today in Haiti and for Haiti by Haitians and their international allies.
The event will take place on April 13, 2025. Doors open at 12:30PM sharp. Admission is free but every guest must register in advance. Admission is by Registration only.
The event will consist of two panel discussions:
- No Haven is Safe: a conversation of Haitian migration with advocates from the USA, Canada, the Dominican Republic and the Hemisphere on the closed-door policies Haitians face as they flee for their lives. This panel starts at 1:00PM NY Time
- Time for Justice and Reparative Transformation is Now! The historic wrong that has been done to Haiti is increasingly recognized and condemned throughout the world. It is high time for truly reparative action. Join prominent advocates in a substantive and powerful discussion of the strategies and measures needed today for the emergence of a democratic and prosperous Haiti. This Panel starts at 3:00PM NY Time
