Immerse yourself in Haitian culture at Haiti, Rhythm of Our Heartbeat: The Spirit of Konbit on Saturday, May 4 at the North Miami Beach Library. This event kicks off Haitian Heritage Month with a night of cultural exploration. Host of the evening: Dr. Laine Powell
View artwork by multimedia artist Zeek Mathias, along with a live performance by internationally acclaimed band Strings (Acoustics), known for their unique blend of Spanish classical guitar and Afro-Caribbean melodies. The lineup also includes:
Haitian drumming by Sanbazao
Mesmerizing choreography by the NSL Danse Ensemble
Spoken word poetry by Rebecca "Butterfly" Vaughns and Andre Fouad
A theatrical performance by Samuel Duperval, highlighting Haitian storytelling traditions.
Live painting by artist Willandra McGahee & jam with DJ Francois.
Guests can delve deeper into the culture with a screening of the acclaimed short film "Sound The Tanbou," which explores the cultural impact of the Haitian community.
Throughout the evening, savor authentic Haitian cuisine and experience the spirit of "Konbit," a core value in Haitian culture that emphasizes cooperative labor and community solidarity.
