About this Event

Welcome to Bigfoot Regional Poetry Festival’s Haiku Deathmatch! Hosted by Briana Hammerstrom. This is an American Street-Style Haiku head2head bracket where there can oNLY BE ONE!! What does that mean? We acknowledge that the original haiku format is *not* the translated “5-7-5” structure as taught in the current United States Public School System, but rather a suggested 20 syllables or less to honor the artform within an “American” context.

Basically: We love short pieces of art and want to see what you can do within the microstructure. Anyone is open to compete, but please bring a minimum of 30 haiku if you plan on going from our Sweet Sixteen to the Final Four, ultimately ending in a BIGFOOT 2023 HAIKU DEATHMATCH CHAMPION!!! If you want to watch the words fly, this is a FREE Event, so stop by and say hi. If you want to throw your hat into the ring, sign-ups will be made available at the door.
