Itinerary:
3rd August - Bowness-on-Solway to Carlisle – 14.71 miles
Kick off your adventure along Hadrian’s Wall with a scenic walk from Bowness-on-Solway to Carlisle. Starting at the edge of the Solway Firth, where Roman soldiers once guarded the northern frontier, you'll trek through peaceful marshland and rolling countryside, following the ancient path of the wall. End your day in historic Carlisle, home to Roman Luguvalium, as you experience the first leg of this journey through history and nature.
4th August - Carlisle to Banks – 15.24 miles
On Day Two, journey from the historic city of Carlisle into the heart of Hadrian's Wall country. Leaving the urban bustle behind, you'll walk through lush farmland and peaceful countryside, with remnants of the Roman wall becoming more visible as you approach the village of Banks. Along the way, explore fascinating Roman history at hidden sites and imagine life on the edge of the empire. This section offers stunning views and an immersive experience in both nature and history, setting the tone for the adventure ahead!
5th August - Banks to Once Brewed – 12.97 miles
Day Three takes you from Banks into some of the most dramatic and iconic landscapes of Hadrian’s Wall. This stretch offers breathtaking views of rugged countryside, with sections of the wall standing tall against the horizon. As you follow the trail, you'll pass by ancient Roman forts and towers, each telling stories of the soldiers who once defended this frontier. The path winds through craggy hills and past Sycamore Gap, one of the most photographed spots on the wall. Your day ends at Once Brewed, a perfect base for reflecting on the journey so far and preparing for more adventures ahead!
6th August - Once Brewed to Walwick – 13.5 miles
Day Four leads you through some of the most striking and well-preserved parts of Hadrian's Wall. Starting from Once Brewed, you’ll traverse dramatic ridgelines, passing Roman forts like House steads and Vindolanda, where ancient ruins still whisper stories of Roman life on the frontier. The trail takes you across rugged terrain, with sweeping views over Northumberland National Park, offering a true sense of the wall’s scale and purpose. As you descend into the quieter landscape near Walwick, you'll feel immersed in the rich history and beauty of this legendary route, ready for what lies ahead.
7th August - Walwick to Heddon – 16.8 miles
On Day Five, you’ll cover a gentler but historically rich stretch of Hadrian’s Wall. Departing from Walwick, the landscape begins to soften as the trail winds through rolling hills and peaceful farmlands. You’ll encounter well-preserved sections of the wall, including key Roman forts like Chesters, where you can explore the ancient bathhouses and military remains. As you approach Heddon-on-the-Wall, one of the best-preserved stretches of the wall awaits, offering a glimpse into the sheer scale of this monumental structure. This day’s journey is a perfect blend of history and countryside charm, with stunning views of the Tyne Valley.
8th August - Heddon-on-the-Wall to Wallsend – 18.7 miles
The final leg of your journey takes you from Heddon-on-the-Wall to Wallsend, where Hadrian’s Wall meets the River Tyne. This day’s walk transitions from rural landscapes to urban surroundings as you follow the trail along the river, with remnants of the wall scattered through villages and towns. As you approach Wallsend, you’ll pass Segedunum, the easternmost Roman fort, where the wall ends. This stretch highlights the fascinating mix of ancient and modern, as you walk in the footsteps of Roman soldiers through Newcastle before concluding your epic adventure at Wallsend.

Simply pay the deposit at the time of booking and email us if you would like to include any of the extras. The remainder is due no later than 60 days prior to the start date (4th June 2025).

Meal Breakdown
Day 1 - we will ask you to take your own lunch. There will be no food provided in Carlisle however there are plenty of options available in the city.
Day 2 - We will not be providing Breakfast or lunch on this day. We will be providing a cooked meal that evening.
Day 3 - We will provide Breakfast, A packed Lunch and an evening meal
Day 4 - We will provide Breakfast, A packed lunch and an evening meal
Day 5 - We will provide Breakfast, A packed lunch and an evening meal
Day 6 - We will provide Breakfast and a packed lunch.
Facilities
* Each stop will have varying facilities, but all contain toilet and washing facilities.
* When staying at a campsite you will be issued a 3 person Vango Helvellyn 300 (or similar) tent per person, unless you have stated you will be sharing with a partner/friend.
* When staying in a hotel you will be sharing a 2 person room of the same gender. If you have booked with a friend please let us know and we will ensure you are paired.
* When staying in the bunkhouse the rooms will be single sex rooms.
Optional Extras
On Day 1 (hotel) if you wish to have a sole occupancy room, there is an additional £60 single occupancy fee.
On day 2 there is an option of booking a shepherds hut for an additional £60 (sleeps 2). This will be booked at a first come-first served basis.
The Bunkhouse on day 5 offers an optional upgrade to a cooked breakfast. Details for this will be sent nearer the date of the trail.
