Hacking Sounds

In this workshop the aim is to introduce participants to the techniques and processes that are required to begin exploring the possibilities of audio manipulation via a real-time audio programming language. We will start with the basics – what is Pd, who uses it, how do you program with it, and what is the available functionality. Participants will learn about control and timing structures, buffers, and also get exposure to basic sampling, and filtering sound. By the end of the workshop participants will have built their own samplers or loopers to process their own pre-recorded or live recorded audio.

Prerequisite: some existing knowledge of computer music production

Required Materials: Download and install Pure Data (free, Open-source) on your laptop. We have a few copies available to borrow. Headphones, mouse (optional).
