Hackensack Free Giant Puppet-Making Workshop for Illumination 250

Want to be part of something historic? Help build the giant puppets that will march down Main Street in Hackensack as part of Illumination 250, a celebration of America's 250th Anniversary.
These free, hands-on workshops are led by Processional Arts, internationally acclaimed artists who specialize in large-scale community puppet builds. No experience needed. No skill necessary. Just show up ready to make something amazing.
Scouting troops, student clubs, and community groups are all welcome. The more the merrier.

Friday, August 14: 2–5 pm and 5–8 pm
Saturday, August 15: 12–3 pm and 3–6 pm
Sunday, August 16: 12–3 pm and 3–6 pm

Tuesday, August 18: 2–5 pm and 5–8 pm
Wednesday, August 19: 2–5 pm and 5–8 pm

The puppets you help build will take center stage at Illumination 250 on October 3, 2026, an all-day arts festival in downtown Hackensack featuring:
- Family Fun Day at Anderson Street Park
- "Quilt Trail," an immersive public art installation at Anderson Street Park
- Giant puppet parade down Main Street
- Hackensacktoberfest at Atlantic Street Park
- MP3 Experiment flash mob
- A light show and projection on the Historic Green
