Habitat for Humanity Build at Meridian Street UMC
Saturday Morning, September 26th
We are once again sponsoring and hosting a home-building event in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. On the morning of Saturday, September 26th, in our church’s parking lot, we will be assembling and nailing the walls for this home – exterior and interior walls. We will have 2 volunteer shifts. To accomplish our task of building walls, we will need at least 70 and preferably up to 96 volunteers (the minimum age is 16 for the construction stations). In addition, we will need some additional volunteers to assist with the check-in station, hospitality, and childcare. There is something for everybody to do that day.
All tools, materials, and PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, and nail aprons, along with expert guidance, will be provided by Habitat for Humanity. As many of you found out last year, this is well within your skill level. All the lumber has been pre-cut, marked and identified, and pre-drilled to aid and “mistake-proof” our work as we assemble each wall unit to the furnished drawing. Habitat “Tiger” volunteers will be working at each nailing station to guide us through to a successful completion of each wall unit. As each wall is completed, it will be assembled with other completed walls to construct the home's framework, with a group photo between shifts.
Thank you - Together, we can do this!!
